Meet the elite dancer cut down by tragedy but keeping hope alive

A horrific accident made young dancer Tom Elphick a quadriplegic, but Tom is determined to return to the stage as soon as possible.

Tom’s story of personal strength, resilience and his love of dancing were all discussed in the ABC’s 7:30 Report, hosted by Leigh Sales.

Colin Elphick, Tom’s brother told ABC reporter Lesley Robinson that despite his brother’s accident and subsequent injuries, Tom “just wanted to move forward.”

While undergoing his rehabilitation exercises, Tom explained how important it is for his body to replicate what was once so easy and learn how to move again.

“I’m really concentrating on what I’m doing because I think it’s important in order for my body to recognise what I’m really trying to tell it to do. And inside, I’m just willing myself to do it better and better and make it more smooth and more coordinated each day.”
