The Hervey Bay community is rallying around Tamara Kelly, the daughter of the late Daniel Kelly, a legendary local entrepreneur, as she endeavors to bring her father's body back to Australia for burial. Daniel Kelly passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2023, in Thailand, leaving behind a legacy as a charismatic and pioneering figure in the music industry.
Tamara, who is currently five months pregnant, has launched a fundraising page to cover the expenses associated with her father's repatriation. The campaign has already raised over $1,500 to cover for the repatriation costs.
"My dad was known for his larger-than-life personality, his generosity, and his sharp business mind," Tamara shared. "He was a cornerstone in bringing big music acts like INXS and Jimmy Barnes to Hervey Bay, greatly enriching our local culture."
Daniel Kelly's health had been in decline over the past year. He spent his final days in Thailand with his wife, Mae Kelly, and their two stepchildren. According to Tamara, despite his health challenges, her father remained a beloved figure in both Hervey Bay and his adopted home in Thailand.
"The cost of hospital bills, release of the body, and other related expenses are overwhelming," Tamara explained. "We hope to have a private vigil in Hervey Bay and release his ashes as per his wishes. It's a tough time for all of us, especially as I'm preparing for the birth of my first child and the cost of living crisis affecting everyone."
Tamara's plea is not just for financial assistance but also a call to honour a man who lived life with passion and purpose.
