Warrnambool and District Food Share is preparing to launch its annual appeal and is calling on both sides of politics to help make sure the charity can continue their work.
Food Share was thrilled when opposition Leader Matthew Guy and Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell committed $610,000, if they gained office, for a new Food Share base.
South West Coast Labor candidate and Food Share board member Kylie Gaston also said “My support for Food Share is unequivocal and I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure Food Share goes from strength to strength.”
Food Share distributes approximately half a tonne of food donations each day and in the last year, the organisation was distributing to about 7,000 people, around 1,000 more than the previous year, and the largest number yet.
Food Share executive officer Dedy Friebe stated that “At the end of July we’ve done roughly 3000 hampers, that’s 300 up on the same time last year.”
With the growing demand for their services, Food Share is trying to keep up, and hopes that with political backing from both sides, and through the generosity of the community during the annual appeal week, they will be able to keep providing as much as possible those who need it.
