The Victorian football community has rallied around Sophie Stapleford - a 21-year-old from Cessnock, NSW who has undergone surgery for a brain tumour.
Footballers from across the WPL have rallied around a fellow footballer in Newcastle who will undergo surgery for a brain tumour.
A 21-year-old from Cessnock, New South Wales, Sophie Stapleford had the world at her feet.
For more than half her life, Sophie dedicated her life to the beautiful game and it was paying off – she had been playing in the top tier women’s competition in Newcastle, and had represented her state on the national scale.
A year ago, she started suffering from excruciating headaches, began feeling lethargic, nauseous, and other symptoms.
She was bounced around from doctor to doctor, being misdiagnosed, before she was finally sent for an MRI scan.
The scan discovered Sophie had a brain tumour, and a potentially lifesaving operation and follow-up treatment will potentially cost $50,000.
“For me its been such a emotional rollercoaster, being so positive became harder as the news worsened, but really the only thing that will help us all to get through something like this is to accept what it is and see the positive out of such a negative,” Sophie wrote in a message on Facebook ...
