Tom from Newcastle - who has been living with Leigh Syndrome - has set himself a set of challenges to break down stigmas associated with his condition and wants to continue living his life to the max.
As part of the Challenges, Tom will tandem kite surf from Nobby's to Merewether Beach to raise funds for Leigh Syndrome.
Leigh Syndrome is a rare degenerative disorder which affects the body’s central nervous system – but that hasn’t slowed Tom down who has been living with the rare disorder for almost his entire life.
Tom, now aged 29 only has mobility in one arm and uses a letter board to communicate with others.
Life indoors is not an option for Tom as he loves to get out, do crazy things and hit the waves on a surf board.
Surfing is one of Tom’s favourite past time events. He also sails un-assisted on Lake Macquarie.
