Summer is fast approaching, and in the beautiful Australian weather, that means thousands of locals and tourists will be flocking to the stunning beaches all along the coast. Australia is blessed to have lovely beaches open to the public, so everyone can enjoy their summer, however, even with all the safety precautions taken by state governments and local lifeguards, accidents can still happen.
Sadly, in the last couple of years mycause has had to help a few grieving families raise funds after their loved ones have drowned off Australian beaches. A group fundraised to send home the body of a member who drowned in New South Wales. Friends have donated to help Sweta after her husband Alpesh drowned at an Adelaide beach. The Gold Coast Sikh Council banded together to ease the financial burden on the family of Ravneet after he drowned at Duranbah beach.
It breaks our hearts to see the loss of these people, and while the money raised for their families will not make up for their loss, we hope that it can help them during their time of need.
This summer, make sure to pay attention to signs on the beaches you visit and listen to the lifeguards on duty. Always swim between the flags where the lifeguards can see you, and do not try to over exert yourself, only swim to a depth at which you are safe in case you get tired and have trouble swimming back. Australia’s beaches are a lot of fun during the summer months, but safety is a number one priority.
