Sue Tantaro, a Tarneit resident affectionately called “Supernanny”, has three grandsons, Anthony, Jakob and Lukas who suffer from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This illness, which causes muscle weakness, breathing difficulties, and hear problems, leads to a painful, and shortened lie for those who are born with it.
Humans have 79 exons, segments of the DNA molecules which contain information coding for protein or peptide sequence. If one of the exons is altered or deleted, the child will be born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This makes the number 79 significant for those with DMD, and Sue has embraced the number fully.
Sue has challenged herself to lose 7.9 kilograms in 79 days, starting on World Duchenne Awareness Day, the 7th of September (7/9), to raise $20,000 which will be used to send all three boys for treatment and medication in Italy, where a specific medication is available. Sue hopes to improve the lives of her grandsons as much as possible.
To help her complete her challenge, the Werribee branch of weight loss specialists Jenny Craig have agreed to supplying Sue with balanced meals for the 79 days, and F45 Training Hoppers Crossing has given Sue a full membership, so she can do her minimum of 40 minutes of exercise a day.
Sue will be tracking her weight loss progress and updating her mycause campaign regularly to keep her on track.
