Solving the Mystery of SIDS

Damien's mother Carmel, a former research biochemist, was practising law 28 years ago when her fourth child was born. Baby Damien was a healthy little boy and Carmel could not have been happier. That is until Damien passed unexpectedly while sleeping on his tummy.

Three years later Carmel was visiting a friend who had just had a baby, she tried to supress the voice in her head screaming because the baby was on it's tummy. The next day when Carmel got the awful news that her friend's baby had died, she quit her law job and went back to medical research.

Since then, Carmel has been working with the Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation to find a reason behind, and hopefully a cure for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Carmel's research is mostly dunded by donations so she has set up the charity Damien's Legacy and created a mycause campaign which has raised almost $52,000 to date.

With the help of the donations and the support of her friends and collegues, Carmel wants to make sure no more mothers have to lose their babies like she did.
