MEDIA: Sara Wightman Tackles Terry Campese Challenge

Fundraising challenge for terry Campese Foundation

Sara Wightman is the Coordinator of Performing Arts & Culture for the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.

Sara recently spoke to Canberra Weekly about how rewarding she finds it to work with, and for, the community, and what more she is doing to give back.

“When you love to work for and with the community to provide a service, you are very lucky as you can instantly see the results of what you have been working on,” she said.

Sara is looking forward to taking part in Terry Campese Foundation’s Special Forces Challenge in February 2023. The event is raising funds for the annual TCF Youth Mentor Program.

For 30 hours over two days, ‘recruits’ will push themselves to the limit!

Activities are run by an elite team of ex-military personnel and are challenging physically and psychologically.

TCF Youth Mentor Program is focused on equipping young people with confidence, self-worth and resilience.

For 2023, they are taking advantage of eased travel restrictions and heading overseas to tackle the Kokoda trail for the final challenge.

However, to do this they first need to raise the funds.

Terry Campese Foundation was established in 2012 when the Rugby League player faced 12-months of recovery after one of his many injuries. He wanted to do something valuable with his time.

His aim is to provide greater opportunities for marginalised young people in the community of Queanbeyan and the surrounding area.

The Foundation also runs a number of other fundraising initiatives including a Gaming Marathon, a Strongman Crossfit Competition at Macquarie Correctional Centre, an annual ball, and race days.
