MEDIA: PCYC Plunge adds zipline

Abseiling down skyscraper for fundraising

Canberra Police Community Youth Club (PCYC) have found more to offer for their very creative Skyscraper fundraiser.

The group are calling on individuals to raise money and “purchase” an abseil, stairwell climb, or – for the first time – a zipline at the Lovett Tower in Woden, located in the Canberra CBD.

Canberra PCYC CEO, Cheryl O’Donnell, first got the idea for this event from an abseil of a Sydney Skyscraper which raised over a quarter of a million dollars for the Sir David Martin Foundation.

When the Canberra PCYC ran the event for the first time in 2019, it was the first of its kind in the ACT according to The Canberra Times.

This will be the first time anyone has the chance to zipline from the Canberra skyscraper, Cheryl O’Donnell told CBR City News

Participants that raise $850 in 2022 will be able to choose abseiling or running a zipline.

“The first 20 people to raise $1200 will get to do both abseiling and zip lining!” says Cheryl.

Lovett Tower is 93 metres tall. Once Canberra’s tallest, the 24-storey office building was recently purchased for $30 million with plans to refurbish.

The “Dare to Plunge” event will be coinciding with the Festival of Ferraris.

75 Ferraris will be on display on the 4th Dec, as well as food stalls, a live concert with award-winning artist Paul Costa, games, and prizes.

There’ll even be a prize for the best costume.

Canberra PCYC is a not-for-profit organisation that provides intensive support to children and adults suffering from trauma-related issues.

They also provide support services for people with disabilities.

With a target of $100,000, the event has so far raised over $35,000.

“Every dollar raised goes directly back into programs that are making a difference to the lives of so many,” said Cheryl.
