Raising Money for Cancer Treatment

Themelis Trikilis is a family man who loves his partner Annette, and three young children Kosta, John and Katarina very much. In May of 2016, Themelis was diagnosed with an advanced stage of testicular cancer for which he underwent 4 months of chemotherapy and cancer treatment. After more scans later on, doctors discovered that Themelis’ cancer had returned and this time, he had to have a highly aggressive 12-month treatment regime.

A friend started a mycause campaign and raised over $77,000 for Themelis’ treatment and other expenses, which helped the family a lot.

Anna and Rob met in 2013 and fell in love, unfortunately, the next year Rob was diagnosed with a stage-four brain cancer called Glioblastoma Multiforme, a malignant cancer, which often grows fast and aggressively. Rob has had to have a few different surgeries and continuous treatment, and the birth of their little girl in 2015 has added more expenses that the couple cannot afford.

Some friends wanted to help and decided to crowdfund to raise money. The community rallied and donated over $73,000 to help the young family.

Nicole Hyslop was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour in 2006, and over the next ten years has had 2 craniotomies, 2 rounds of radiotherapy and multiple forms of chemotherapy, all with her amazing husband Rod and their 2 beautiful daughters, Grace and Milla by her side. In 2014 Nicole was no longer able to look after herself and needed to be looked after 24 hours a day. Unsure of how much time they had left with her, her family wanted to create some lasting memories.

Nicole’s sisters raised money for Nicole and her family to be able to go on one last vacation before Nicole was no longer able to travel. Friends donated almost $64,000 for the trip and for any other expenses the family had.

Andrew Gray, husband of Sue and father of three young kids Thomas, Darcy and Amy was diagnosed with Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma (ACC) caused by a cancerous growth in the adrenal cortex. Tumors spread to his liver and lungs after already having an adrenal gland, kidney and 1.1kg tumour removed. Andrew underwent extensive chemotherapy which has taken him away from his family for at least 6 months as he was unable to travel once starting treatment. This was very difficult on both Andrew and his family.

A friend of Andrew’s created a mycause campaign and raised almost $57,000 to help the Gray family with medical costs and other expenses during Andrew’s treatment.

Tabina Assaad is a 20-year-old Sydney nursing student who has been diagnosed with brain stem glioma DIPG, an aggressive cancerous brain tumour. She will require a brain biopsy, chemotherapy & many other treatments in the coming months. Tabina’s parents are heartbroken and should not have to worry about the cost of their daughter’s treatment during this difficult time.

Friends of Tabina’s parents have started fundraising for the medical costs and have already raised almost $90,000 to help with expenses.
