A Wagga couple is calling on the community to help them raise the funds needed for a children’s cancer charity event next March.
Andrew Walsh and his wife Louise hope to join their seventh Riverina Redneck Rally next year with their team, I Know a Shortcut.
To compete, they need to have an initial $2500 in donations before the event commences.
Andrew and Louise say their funds are not at the level they need to be right now.
“COVID-19 set us back a bit so we're a bit behind where we would like to be but we still have through to March next year," Andrew told The Daily Advertiser.
The couple is raising money for Country Hope, a country-based charity providing support to the families of children facing cancer or a life-threatening illness.
Andrew explained he appreciated the work Country Hope were doing in the community and how he and Louise wanted to support them.
“Country Hope is a good charity and they don't get any government funding," he said.
"I also had a friend whose son ended up with brain cancer when he was young and I saw the impact of that.”
“Most of the time the kids have to go to Sydney or Melbourne for treatment and usually one parent isn't able to work during that time."
Based inRiverina, Country Hope assists families throughout Wagga Wagga, Albury/Wodonga, Griffith, Dubbo, and the surrounding areas.
The annual Riverina Redneck Rally attracts around 80 cars and raises hundreds of thousands of dollars.
In 2023, the motorists will ride from Trundle to Temora, New South Wales from 27 to 31 March.
