The annual Scrapheap Adventure Ride is a challenge asking participants to buy, source and build a motorbike for under $1,000, do whatever is needed to make it roadworthy, and then ride it through the outback to raise money for Down Syndrome New South Wales.
This year, a team from Armidale called Molly Moo is participating in the challenge. The team captain, Tony Woods told the Nyngan Observer about his niece Molly, who was the inspiration for the team name, and the reason why he is riding this year. Molly was four years old when she passed away after suffering from leukaemia. Molly was born with Down Syndrome, which has been known to go hand in hand with both leukaemia and heart conditions.
Team Molly Moo has just passed through Nyngan on their way to Pooncarie, New South Wales where the riders and teams from all over will be converging.
Team Molly Moo is currently the top fundraiser for Scrapheap Adventure Ride, having raised over $11,000 for Down Syndrome NSW. It is fantastic to see the community support both Molly Moo, and Down Syndrome NSW in general, with the event having raised over $70,600 so far for the charity.
