Before Alyssa and Lucy began grade six they met the prep student who would be their 'buddy' for the year, a bubbly five year old girl called Ava, who was already unfortunately in the battle of a lifetime. Ava was fighting against leukaemia.
Alyssa and Lucy wanted so badly to help little Ava, so they decided to grow their hair all year, and then chop it all off at the end of the year, to raise money for Challenge, a charity which supports children with cancer and their families. The two girls also chose to donate their chopped locks to become wigs for children who have lost their hair during cancer treatment.
Late last year Alyssa and Lucy each cut off 35cm of hair to donate and raised nearly $4,500 for Challenge, all in support of their prep buddy Ava.
