The City of Casey is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, and with that the number of families experiencing poverty also grows. Latest research has found that approximately 44,500 people experience poverty within the City of Casey (2018).
The City of Casey holds families from all walks of life, including those from over 150 different ethnicities.
Ashvina is a proud member of the City of Casey, who's parents migrated to Australia for a better life. Ashvina's family was relatively lucky and well off when they arrived, but she knows that most immigrants struggle to land on their feet, especially when they experience such extreme culture shock.
Wanting to support as many of these culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people as possible, Ashvina started the organisation COOK4CALD, to feed the CALD community, especially during the holidays.
What began as a passion project for Ashvina quickly evolved in to an organisation of 50 volunteers, funded by community donations.
