Macarthur region helps raise $27,000 to help a Claymore girl fly to Mexico for melanoma treatment

THE Macarthur region has opened its hearts – and pockets  to a young Claymore woman battling cancer.

In just over two weeks, more than $27,000 has been raised to help send Faberge Proctor to Mexico for alternative cancer treatment.

Ms Proctor, 25, has fought three bouts of melanoma since 2012 and was shattered to learn on May 12 that she now has lung cancer.

The effervescent former Campbelltown Performing Arts High School student admitted the diagnosis had laid her low.

But, she said, the community’s generosity had motivated her on to take up the fight and give it her best shot.

“Last Monday I never felt so low in my whole entire life,” Ms Proctor said.

“This is the fourth time ... I was really down. I was with my partner in Queensland and I felt I couldn’t do it anymore. But after the fundraising, I am so confident I will beat it again.”

Ms Proctor plans to travel to the Gerson Institute in Mexico for treatment, if her application is successful.

She will take her mother, Geraldine, for support.

Cost of the treatment is $5500 a week and she plans to spend three weeks overseas.

Over the past two years, cancer has stymied Ms Proctor’s attempts to follow her dreams and spread her wings.

“I worked for St George Bank after I left school then moved to New Zealand two years ago,” she said. “I was unwell in New Zealand but had plans to move to Europe.

“I came home before going overseas and doctors found a melanoma mole.”

The mole was removed but not long after melanoma was found in a node in Ms Proctor’s right leg.

She had more surgery and was given a clean bill of health. But last December she found another lump in her right leg.

She completed her last round of radiation in March.

Last month she moved to Queensland but pains in her chest forced her back to the doctor. She flew home last Monday to be among family and friends and decide on her next course of action.

“I’d heard about the Gerson therapy and didn’t pay much attention at the time,” Ms Proctor said.

“ABut fter my latest news, I have to look at the alternatives.”

Ms Proctor’s plight has touched many and they opened up on her fundraising page.

“I truly admire your courage and strength and know you’ll beat this babe,” Nova posted.
