Fundraising for Perth Hills Bushfire Victims
Local Aussie legends are coming together to host multiple fundraising campaigns for the Lord Mayors Distress Relief Fund WA to help give back to the Perth Hills bushfire victims.
On the evening of February 2, at least 71 homes have been destroyed from bushfire blaze across the Perth Hills in Western Australia.
Donovan MacDonald of Bayswater started a fundraising campaign attempting to host one of the largest Aussie BBQ and invites everyone to come along.
Donovan says, “The only way I could think of was to do what we do around Perth every week: cook BBQ. So we're throwing a gigantic Aussie BBQ. Cooking well over 1000kg of Brisket, pork and ribs. Plus Nashville fried chicken. And washing it down with a few beers of course.”
So far, the BBQ fundraiser has raised over $3,600 for the Lord Mayors Distress Relief Fund WA and continues to climb with the hope to raise its $50,000 goal – www.mycause.com.au/bbqforbushfirerelief.
Donovan intends to host his BBQ on February 27 at the Feral Brewery in Swan Valley.
“Our goal is to see 600 people turn up for some snags and sunshine,” Donovan says.
In addition, Caleb Gray of Cottesloe will be joined by his three team mates, Jordan and Joel, to run 135km each across WA’s Cape to Cape hiking track in 24 hours.
Caleb says, “My mates and I created the ‘Pedal It Forward’ challenge to raise money for the Lord Mayors Distress Relief Fund who exist to provide financial assistance and help alleviate distress, suffering & personal hardships to communities in WA specifically affected by the recent WA bushfires.”
