MEDIA: Kayla Saves the Cows

A brave and passionate 12-year-old girl named Kayla is fundraising to save her friend cow, Bruce from slaughter in regional Queensland.

“I was walking my dog past his paddock when he broke away from the other cows and came right up and let me pat him,” said Kayla.

“I loved how curious he was, and every day after that he’d run up to me and follow me as far as he could, then make a crying noise when I left him.”

Kayla started a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to purchase Bruce, his transport fees and fencing for a new paddock for the Death Row Unchained Animal Sanctuary who has agreed to take him in.

So far, Kayla has raised over $2,000 and is closing in on her fundraising goal through the community’s efforts - www.mycause.com.au/savebruce

Any extra donations will go towards the Death Row Unchanged Animal Sanctuary, whose mission is to save as many animals as possible from death row, neglect or abuse.

“I have promised him a life of freedom but there is only so much I can do. I may not be able to save all the cows being raised to be killed, but we all start somewhere. This is one of my many attempts to change how people view animals as not as your next meal but as beings with rights to live freely,” Kayla says.

Through Kayla's efforts, she's been featured on the Courier Mail newspaper, published on 9 February 2021 (p.13). Feature below.
