Ashwood woman Loretta Barone, 20, is determined to save a special horse from the knackery after it failed to make the grade for professional horse racing.
Barone has created a mycause campaign to save Lacey, a thoroughbred who was unable to compete as a racehorse or polo pony.
Despite not having purchased Lacey at the time of publication, Barone told the Herald Sun that she already has plans for Lacey’s future.
“I want to work with Lacey and train her in some cowboy dressage and give her a happy life, not ever having to worry about ending up in the sales again.”
While many people spend so much time and money on their outfit for the races, Ms Barone told the Herald Sun that people should also think about the “thousands of horses that are sitting in the slaughterhouse because they are not good enough to race.”
