Local Crowdfunding to Build a Historical Landmark

The Mudgee community is fundraising to honour historical women's rights campaigner, Louisa Lawson with a statue in the city.
Louisa was an Australian poet, writer, publisher, suffragist, and feminist.
Born in 1848 Mudgee NSW, she founded The Dawn, Australia's first magazine devoted to women's issues, opened Australia's first refuge for women fleeing domestic violence and spearheaded the Suffragette 'Women's Right to Vote' movement in NSW.
Coordinated by the Rotary Club of Mudgee, the campaign has raised over $4,800 so far and is gaining public favour day by day.
"We hope to achieve a lasting recognition of her outstanding contribution to the women's movement through a beautiful statue in the Mudgee CBD."
