The Green-Collins family from Bray Park has been through a challenging journey since their youngest member, Aliannah, tragically lost all her limbs due to a fierce battle with meningococcal disease at just six years of age.

Two years after this life-altering event, the resilient eight-year-old got an unforgettable surprise when she met with members of her favourite NRL team, The Dolphins. This was especially significant for Aliannah, whose life changed in a mere moment in December 2021, when she went from playing gleefully to fighting for her life in a hospital.

Recalling the ordeal, Aliannah's mother, Bianca Collins, said to the Courier Mail, "We're still grieving the loss of those limbs; it's heartbreaking."

The family's challenges compounded when Ms. Collins lost her job during Aliannah's hospitalisation. The constant visits to the hospital and the resultant loss of employment have placed considerable financial stress on the family.

However, in a heartwarming gesture, Ausbuild, in collaboration with the Dolphins, extended an invitation to Aliannah and her family to the Friday's Captains Run at Kayo Stadium. "The principal put forward the family as people who could really do with some good news," shared Ausbuild Joint Managing Director, Matthew Bell.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ms. Collins said, “We’re so excited to join Ausbuild and the Dolphins at the Captains Run on Friday. The experience is very exciting." The family's joy was evident as they were also presented with a Dolphins merchandise pack.

Despite the enormous support, the family continues to face financial hardships. They have recently acquired a modified vehicle for Aliannah’s electric wheelchair, thanks to community fundraising. However, Ms. Collins highlighted, "We're still really struggling with the rising costs of living and the high insurance costs of the modified vehicle."

Echoing the sentiments of community support, Dolphins NRL Chief Executive Officer, Terry Reader, expressed, “The Dolphins are very proud of the role they played in the local community."
