Set Up Your Facebook Advertising Campaign in 7 Easy Steps

Facebook is an online advertising powerhouse, because of their highly detailed targeting methods through demographics, behaviours and interests.

You have full control over what budget you set, when your ad will appear and what audience you are targeting, so it's easy to experiment with different settings.

If you have a facebook page for your organisation or charity, set up a Facebook advertising account and try setting up an ad campaign. You’ve got nothing to lose as you can turn off the ads at any time.

Here are our 7 easy steps to get your started:

  1. You can set up:

    • a single display ad with one image

    • a carousel ad with up to 5 images that scroll across.

    • a regular post on your Facebook page and pay to ‘boost’ the post.

  2. Be aware that Facebook has image guidelines forbidding paid ads or boosted posts to be any more than 20% text. You can measure your ad using their grid tool here.

  3. Set your audience based on gender, age, location or what pages they have liked.

  4. Set the timeline and budget of your advertising, to pay a ‘per day’ fee or set a ‘lifetime budget’ of a set full amount.

  5. Set whether you want to pay per click, per impression (every 1000 occurrences of your ad on Facebook), or per “conversion” (a donation or sale).

  6. You can embed a tracking code from your website into your ad campaign in Facebook’s ad centre to see the direct impact of your ad on your website conversions, making it easy to justify to spend to those who hold the purse strings.

  7. Create a few different versions of your ads and test them. Log in to check their performance and turn off ads that aren’t performing to save money.
