Mimi's Story
In May, 2014, 3 year old Mimi Anderson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Mimi and her family started a two and a half year treatment program and the prognosis for ALL children in her age is relatively good. This wasn't always the case for children diagnosed with this condition. There is a well worn path to positively changing the prognosis of any disease. Creating awareness, with awareness come funding, with funding comes research and with research comes results. An event like the EUROZ NORTH COTTESLOE COLD WATER CLASSIC goes a long way to helping all of this happen.
Led by swim dynamo Ceinwen Roberts and Mimi's father, James, a group of friends from the close knit open water swimming fraternity decided to hold an event to raise awareness and funds for the Leukaemia Foundation- and so the EUROZ NORTH COTTESLOE COLD WATER CLASSIC was born!
It is an annual and hopefully iconic event helping a cause that is obviously close to our heartst.
As the 2nd annual event is nearly upon us we are happy to report Mimi is doing really well. A lot of people involved in last years event have kindly enquired as to how she is going. She is halfway through her chemotherapy program and ticking lots of boxes. She is attending kindi 3 days a week and apart from the visits to hospital is leading a very happy normal life. The people at PMH and the Leukaemia foundation have been amazing in her development. Her dream of becoming a “Ballerina Doctor” has every chance of becoming reality (hopefully she can add distance swimming to her passions and one day compete in a cold water classic!!)
