Your October Causes

mycause worked with heartbreaking causes in October, launched by family and friends to help their loved ones.  Australians from across the country united to show their support in both metro and regional areas - which without a doubt is simply inspiring for the many causes we work with each day.

Two St John Ambulance paramedics were injured during a collision during the early hours of October 10.

News reports indicate that the paramedics were en route to a call when the collision occurred.

One of the paramedics, Wesley Ackerman, was seriously injured in the collision and had to be airlifted to the nearest hospital.

Colleagues of the two paramedics were quick to launch a fundraising page on mycause, with news of the awful accident spreading via family and friends of the paramedics involved. Over $40,000 has been raised for the SJA paramedics, with support from family, friends and media outlets such as 7 News, WA Today, perthnow and news.com.au.

Beloved mother of two Crystal Ratcliffe was tragically killed in her family home, leaving her two young children Tyler and Ruby behind.

The community in Queensland immediately rallied around Tyler, 16, and Ruby, 13, who returned home to find police combing over the property.

Both Tyler and Ruby now have to live without their mother and will undoubtedly require support from family and friends.

The tragic story was covered in Brisbane Times, 7 News Cairns, Sydney Morning Herald and more, with over $10,000 raised for the children to date.

The entire country was shocked to hear of the tragic accident at Dreamworld, in which four lives were lost on a ride at the famous amusement park. Kim Dawsett, mother to Kate Goodchild and Luke Dawsett, created a fundraising page with close friend Sandra Brookfield to raise funds for Kim’s granddaughters, Ebony and Evie.

The family were enjoying a day out when tragedy struck, robbing Kim of two of her children and leaving Ebony and Evie without their mother and uncle.

The massive outpouring of grief and support from across the country and the world was greatly appreciated by the family, still coming to terms with the heartbreaking loss. The story was covered in 2GB, the Sydney Morning Herald, 7 News Brisbane and overseas, with over $60,000 in funds gathered for the children of Kate Goodchild.

6 year-old Kaelum was unable to save his mother Kathleen, who suffered a fatal brain aneurysm in the family home.

Devoted mum Kathleen stayed at home to raise Kaelum while her husband Scott worked hard to make ends meet.

When Kathleen passed away a fundraising campaign raised over $8000 to achieve Kathleen’s dream of having Kaelum graduate at his current school, with the story featured in the Gold Coast Bulletin and 9 News Queensland.

After devoting much of their spare time to cancer fundraisers, it was a cruel shock for parents Andrew and Leia to discover that their little girl Hayley was diagnosed with cancer.

The long battle is currently underway to reduce the size of the tumour, with radiation and chemotherapy treatment both part of Hayley’s arduous cancer treatment plan.

Thanks to the generosity of friends and family, Hayley’s parents are able to remain by her side throughout the treatments, with $8500 raised to help the family after being featured in Kidspot, the Herald Sun and the Daily Mail.
