After COVID forced the Black Dog Ride to postpone twice, Mick and Tyler Standen are again preparing for the two-week round trip to Alice Springs.
Tyler, along with his father Mick, will leave for the Ride to the Red Centre on April 6, 2023. It will be the longest ride Mick has ever taken on his Harley Davidson.
To make it to the Red Centre on schedule, they will ride a set number of kilometres per day for one week. The pair, and other teams participating in the Black Dog Ride fundraiser, will camp in tents along the way.
Black Dog began in 2009 as a ride to raise awareness of depression. It is now a national charity that has raised millions of dollars for mental health programs and raised much-needed awareness of depression and suicide prevention.
Tyler and Mick were first gearing up for the Ride to the Red Centre in 2020, before it and the consequent postponement had to be moved again due to lockdowns and other pandemic-related issues.
The pair have now raised over double their initial target of $1000.
