MEDIA: Support for fight with rare cancer

fundraising for rare cancer

Kylie Watson is facing a reoccurrence of a very rare and aggressive cancer she was diagnosed with last year, called Leiomyosarcoma.

Leiomyosarcoma, or LMS, is a type of rare Sarcoma that grows in the body’s ‘smooth’ muscles. Smooth muscles are in the hollow organs of the body, including the intestines, stomach, bladder, blood vessels, and uterus.

Kylie lives in regional New South Wales with her husband and her two youngest children. They are six hours away from the specialised Sarcoma team that oversee Kylie’s treatment.

In the time since she was first diagnosed last April, she has had to travel back and forth several times for Chemo and radiation treatment, as well as numerous surgeries and follow up checks.

She is fundraising via a mycause fundraising page to “help ease the financial burden with medical fees, costs associated with travel, and accommodation while receiving treatment.”

Kylie is known to 2GB Afternoons listeners, having helped Tea Time listener Bill find his long-lost sister of 80 years, Beryl. Bill and Beryl are her great aunt and uncle.

To help Kylie reach her $10,000 goal, Deborah Knight shared the link to Kylie’s mycause fundraising page on the 2GB Radio website.

So far, a total of 41 donors have helped raise just over $5,000.

Kylie was booked in for surgery once again at Prince Of Wales Hospital on 24 April, 2023. She didn’t miss a beat, though, thanking her donors on her page while she recovered.

Sending her our best as she continues this fight with a very rare cancer.
