When Adam Sutton and his 8 year-old son, Darcy, were involved in a horrific car crash just outside their home in February, the family’s lives were forever altered and the local Livestock community stepped in for support.
Adam lost his life, and Darcy was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
His employer, Nutrien’s South Gippsland Livestock team, quickly set up a mycause fundraising page to help Darcy and his family financially through a terrifying time.
“You feel pretty helpless when these things happen, but with his son needing a lot of care and assistance, we’d just like to help his family with all the costs coming,” Terry Ginname, director of Nutrien’s South Gippsland Livestock team, told The Weekly Times.
“It’s a long road ahead.”
Darcy’s injuries included a traumatic brain injury, liver laceration, spleen and kidney injury, bilateral lung confusions & pneumothorax which needed draining.
“Darcy will need ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation for months, if not years,” the team wrote on the crowdfunding page.
“We would like to support Darcy and his family and we hope you are able to as well.”
While they aimed for $25,000, the fundraiser soon collected more than 500 donations totalling $72,591.
Messages of support flooded the page, remembering a “really great guy” and shared generous donations, including $2000 from Dumbalk Country and $500 donations from various Livestock teams from around the region.
The Glen Pub also collected community donations of almost $3,000 to contribute to the fund.
