The Austin family has been operating Healy's Camel and Pony Farm for over 35 years, providing unique experiences like camel rides along Adelaide's beaches and bringing joy to the community. However, tragedy struck on January 7th, 2023, when Alyesha Austin, her mother Lyn, her husband Reegan, and two of her children were involved in a head-on collision on Victor Harbor Road, which sadly claimed the life of a young man.

Although the children and Reegan only suffered minor injuries, Alyesha and Lyn were severely injured, with Alyesha still in critical condition in an induced coma at Flinders Hospital.

The family, who had already lost Alyesha's father a few months prior, faced the daunting task of recovering from their injuries, taking care of the farm, and looking after their remaining camels after losing two in the accident.

Despite the challenges, Reegan Austin, who was now taking care of his five children without any means of income, started a mycause fundraising page to help them through tough times. In the end, they managed to raise an impressive $50,000.

Thanks to the generosity of their donors, the Austin family could focus on their recoveries while still tending to the farm and their remaining camels. Healy's Camel and Pony Farm is now up and running again, providing unique experiences for both children and adults.

The story of the Austin family and their farm is a reminder of the power of people and the importance of coming together in times of need.
