mycause worked with a number of particularly heartbreaking causes in August 2016, created by family and friends for the people they love.
Over the last month, Australians chose to crowdfund after the loss of a loved one, to support family members with medical conditions and to raise funds for medical bills after horrific accidents.
17 year-old Elyse Miller had the world at her feet - she was a Miss World Australia National finalist and a beloved Dimbulah teen.
Elyse was driving home after a charity event when her car was involved in a head-on collision. Elyse battled for a week in hospital, during which time a friend created a mycause campaign to help her family with Elyse’s medical costs. Sadly, Elyse passed away in hospital from her extensive injuries.
Over $53,000 was raised for Elyse and her family, with her story receiving nationwide and international coverage in news.com.au, Seven News and the New York Post.

Cohen wakes up every night in pain and can barely walk without his skin cracking. This eight year-old boy has a debilitating skin condition called atopic dermatitis, and desperately needs treatment at a clinic in France.
Devoted parents Carlee and Andrew are raising funds to cover the travel, treatment and accommodation costs for Cohen. It is hoped that the clinic’s treatment will reduce Cohen’s inflammation and heal his skin, giving him the chance to run and play with his little sister.
The mycause campaign for Cohen has raised over $20,000 to date, with Cohen’s story being told in the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Annabelle Deall was tragically struck and killed by a car while walking to dinner with friends in Terrigal. Annabelle, aged 32 years old, was a physiotherapist and a mother to four little boys, all under 5 years old.
Friends Nicole and Sofia created mycause crowdfunding campaigns to support Simon, Annabelle’s husband, and their sons during this heartbreaking time. The campaign was featured in the Daily Mail and on 2GO Central Coast. Thanks to the amazing outpouring of support from friends, family members and Australians across the country, over $100,000 has been raised for the Deall family, with donations continuing to pour in for the family.
Samantha Chebat is the only Australian to have Glycosylation Type 2N (CDG2N) - an incredibly rare congenital disorder. 12 year-old Samantha can’t walk, move or even breathe without complications and requires 24 hour support.
Every day, Samantha has eight different kinds of medications while being fed through a tube. Unfortunately Samantha’s family have an old car that is simply too small to transport Samantha in her wheelchair - a crowdfunding campaign was created to purchase a van and make it wheelchair friendly. Samantha’s campaign was featured in news.com.au and the Northern District Times, with over $13,000 raised.
