There isn’t much that a parent won’t do for their child. As a father of 4, my most important role in life is to ensure that my children are happy and healthy.
One of my children, Alex, is part of a team of 10 children dancing at Sefra Burstin Dance Studio, that have been accepted to Team Australia of the International Dance Organisation (IDO).
I am fundraising for my daughter’s participation in the world cup performance for the IDO, which is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee.
Unfortunately in Australia, dance is not regarded as a sport so there is no funding from the government. As a result, all of the parents need to fundraise for the travel and accommodation costs themselves.
I have to raise $8000 to cover my own costs to go with Alex to Korea for just 6 days.
Like many sports, dance takes up much of our time and costs a considerable amount of money.
Alex trains at Sefra Burstin dance studio - she dances at least 14 hours each week. For the last 2-3 months Alex has also been training for an extra 4 hours with IOC, along with her private lessons.
Alex began dance lessons at the age of 4 and is able to express herself through ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap and contemporary routines.
Dance is not recognised as a sport, but it is still an expensive activity even just for the basics. It costs $600 a term for the dance school, which doesn’t include competitions, registration, costumes and more.
I posted about our mycause campaign on facebook and even on LinkedIn. Out of the $1400 raised to date, $400 is from family.
Alex is extremely proud and excited to have the opportunity to represent Australia on the international stage.
As a first generation Australian, it is proof that Australia is a multicultural country.
