The Daily Advertiser has been following the story of Toby Holt, a young Wagga resident diagnosed with Juvenile Huntington's Disease earlier this year.
There is no cure for Huntington’s Disease, a neurological genetic degenerative disease. Since the diagnosis, family, friends – and even some strangers – have been rallying behind the 16-year-old, helping to raise funds so Toby can complete a bucket list of activities.
His parents want Toby to see some dreams come true and to also build family memories “because there's not going to be as many as we should be getting."
In June, family friend Ali Pitts created a mycause fundraising page to help Toby and his family achieve these goals. The fundraising page has raised over $37,000 so far.
Friends have already organised for Toby to have a night at the footy, and the family are now preparing to holiday in the U.S to visit Disneyland, Alcatraz, the Grand Canyon, and other places Toby would like to see.
Toby’s father, Stephen, told The Daily Advertiser support for Toby had been overwhelming.
“Even the support from people who you don't know."
On Friday, September 9, a fundraising trivia night called Toby’s Gift was held at the Riverina Hotel, to raise funds to go alongside the money raised online.
Hundreds of Wagga residents were set to gather for the event. The event had also raised over $12,000 before ticket selling had started.
As Ali explained to The Daily Advertiser in Taylor Dodge’s initial article, raising a lot of money was important because the family “not only want him to make his dreams come true, but they will eventually need a car and a wheelchair and lots and lots of help for his future.
