"I started the Black Mothers group when I was pregnant with my son last year. I wanted a safe place where I could meet like-minded women who could talk about the nuances of being a black mother and raising black children."
August Inc. is an inclusive collective in Sydney for Black Women of African descent. Their aim is to enrich, support, empower and uplift Black Women through self-care.
August Inc. is collectively celebrating black womanhood in all its glorious forms. They are based in Sydney, Australia and founded by two unapologetically black women.
For them self-care is about finding a space to belong. It is about being true to yourself and breathing in all that is authentically you. As Black Women they are the same but different and they believe that leaning on one another and coming together helps them all mentally and physically to face a world that was not necessarily built for them.
They run events that are free to low cost in order to make them as accessible as possible to all Black Women, they also often open the space for non-black people to learn. An upcoming event is Sister Solace; a healing circle for Black Women in a challenging time.
