2 years ago, Jacob Pearce should have died but, luckily, he didn’t. He fell 22 stories from a building after a highly-intoxicated accident without any memories of it. He should have woken up on a Sunday with a routine hangover but instead, woke up on a Tuesday from an induced coma and a lot of rehab to come.
Jacob, Pearcy to his mates, says that “Someone was looking over me that night and I feel like the reason I was given a second chance, is to educate and help others who have been through what I have been through as a young person.”
On top of this, 9 months ago Jacob’s family lost a relative to suicide and 6 months ago he received a call that a bloke he had bonded with had taken his life. Pearcy has seen the effect suicide has on a family and ever since then he has had a burning desire to do something about it.
So, Jacob has made it his mission to raise money and awareness for Alive Project, a community-driven organisation of people and partners committed to end youth suicide. Inspiring and supporting young Australians at risk of suicide to feel alive and ultimately choose life through the engagement of their suicide intervention support services and initiatives.
By running in the Murray to Melbourne and asking friends and the wider community to sponsor him, Pearcy has raised over $18,000 for Alive Project! This is a tremendous feat and Pearcy should be so proud of the conversation he is starting around mental health.
