MEDIA: Football Legend, Kane Cornes, Nears End of Charity Run

Port Adelaide football player and media personality, Kane Cornes, is running the marathon of a lifetime – all in the name of charity.

Kane is one day away from finishing his 12-day, 725 kilometre run from Adelaide to Melbourne.

The challenge is a fundraiser for Children’s Cancer Charity, My Room, for which Kane is ambassador.

Kane started in his home town of Adelaide on Sunday 11 September. He has been running more than 60 kilometres per day.

Now he is gearing up for the final leg of his ultra-marathon. He will arrive at Channel 9’s Dockland Studio, Melbourne, in time to be Live on The Footy Show Grand Final: My Room Telethon.

For last year’s My Room Telethon, Kane ran 42 kilometres on a treadmill. This helped raise a record-breaking $3.3 million for the charity.

This year he is determined to go even further. He does, however, keep sight of where the real challenge lies.

The run will be a huge challenge but it's nothing compared to what these families face every day,” he said on the mycause event page.

“I look forward to meeting brave children and their families along the way and sharing their powerful stories. Together with My Room, I look forward to making a difference.

Along the journey, Kane met families touched by childhood cancer including 10 year-old My Room donee and supporter, Luka Formoso. Luka and his 8 year-old brother, Hugo, decided to forgo birthday presents this year and instead raise money for My Room with a mycause fundraising page. "Supporting tthe charity is the least we can do," Luka's mother told the Star Journal. "I've seen first-hand what they've done to support us and other families."

Kane's brother, Chad Cornes, spoke to Triple M about Kane's marathon and his own pride for his brother.

The Footy Show: My Room Telethon airs on Thursday, September 22 at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now
