Following a tragic house fire in the southern suburbs of Perth, a local council woman has started raising money for the Vasiliades family.
Early in the morning of Tuesday June 4th, a blaze started in Peter and Roula Vasiliades’ home near Manitoba Place. One of their grown sons woke up in time to alert his elderly parents and his brother and they all escaped the house safely. Unfortunately, once emergency services had arrived the home could not be salvaged.
As the home was not insured, the couple, who are in their 80s, do not have a place to live or the money to stay anywhere and rebuild.
City of Cockburn Deputy Mayor Lee-Anne Smith has taken it upon herself to raise money through a mycause fundraising campaign to help the family get back on their feet.
The community has come on board, sharing the campaign and donating to make sure the family will have a home, as well as gifting the family goods and vouchers. Local businesses have also promised some goods and services at no cost to help the Vasiliades family during this stressful time.
