The people of Afghanistan are living through their country's worst nightmare and are at the brink of another humanitarian and refugee crisis.
On August 15, the whole world was in shock after hearing the Afghanistan news of the Taliban taking over the capital city of Kabul.
The Australian Afghan community, many of which are Afghan refugees are feeling hopeless by the day but are choosing to take action and fundraise to help their loved ones impacted by the Taliban regime.
Young Sydney girl, Neilab started a fundraising campaign to support her big family who are living in Kabul, at the centre of the chaos.
Within 3 days, the campaign has been flooded with support and has raised nearly $7,000 - www.mycause.com.au/helpmyfamilyinafghanistan
Neilab’s aunties and cousins will use a large portion of the funds to purchase sanitary items, tents, clothing, and food for people who are in much worst conditions than them in Kabul.
Melbourne Doctors, Hamish and Mariam have started a fundraising page to help their close contacts in Afghanistan. Within a few days, the campaign has raised $36,760 and will be sent to local Afghan NGO, Relief Humanitarian Development Organisation - www.mycause.com.au/p/261624/children-and-families-in-afghanistan
Olly is also joining in on the cause by dusting off his runners and doing a 30km run to raise funds for global aid non-for-profit, UNHCR - www.mycause.com.au/p/261352/ollys-run-for-afghanistan
Perth friends, Sanam and Lina have also created a fundraising campaign to support the Afghan Crisis Appeal. All funds raised will be sent to trusted contacts who will deliver funds to the country’s most vulnerable to the crisis in Afghanistan - www.mycause.com.au/afghancrisisappeal2021
Lina says, many Afghans had to leave everything they own behind in their regional provinces to escape the Taliban and go to Kabul where it was once safe.
Now that the Taliban has taken over the capital city, food and essentials in Kabul is growing scarce by the day.
We admire the swift action of Australian Afghan community for creating impactful grassroots campaigns during a very devastating time.
If you would like to help those still in trouble in Afghanistan you can do so by donating to, or fundraising for one of the following organisations; Sadqa Welfare Fund, Mahboba's Promise, or UNHCR
