How did two friends raise over $10,000 by walking from Melbourne to Sydney?

When it comes to fundraising, Australians are going above and beyond to raise money by encouraging their community to support their cause.

Every year the fundraising initiatives continue to become more creative and challenging as everyday people push their limits for a great cause.

Friends from Melbourne, Blake and Nathan decided to go the distance, quite literally, by challenging themselves to walk from Melbourne to Brisbane.

Their challenge, dubbed ‘K’s for Days’, raised vital funds and awareness for Dogs for Kids, a charity that are dedicated to raising and training assistance therapy dogs for kids with autism and other developmental, physical, and sensory challenges.

It took 22,000 kilometres, 94 days and two pairs of hiking shoes each for Blake and Nathan to complete the whole challenge.

Along the way, members of the community opened their doors to provide meals, accommodation and support for the friends who are doing the most for charity.

“The generosity and beauty of the people we met along the way is one of the things we reminisce about the most since we've been back, it really made it all the much better,” says the boys.

From their efforts, the friends were able to raise $26,000 for Dogs for Kids.

In addition, more and more young Australians are taking action and doing challenges to fundraise for charity.

8-year-old Keyarn decided to do a 24-hour Handball Challenge to raise funds for  an organisation that cares for unpaid carers, like his mum.

At the age of six, Keyarn was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, coeliac disease, childhood arthritis and a rare bone disease. He has spent most of 2020 in a wheelchair.

Despite his limitations, Keyarn loves to play handball and has decided to put his efforts to help others, just like other have helped him.

The challenge was a massive success and young Keyarn raised $10,000 for the charity.

There are countless of ways to challenge yourself, whether you do a virtual marathon, a 24-hour challenge or shaving your head, you can do your part for a greater charity cause.
