Hosting an Event Fundraiser for a Friend
Hosting an Event Fundraiser has become a popular way to help a friend in need. Event Fundraising provides a practical way to give support and show solidarity. The heartbreaking, but sadly common, experience of tragic loss, injury, or diagnosis is leading more people to turn to fundraising to help a friend.
Event Fundraising has become popular because it is now much safer and easier to collect donations and registrations online. Online fundraising platforms like mycause have made it super easy and free. Remember the telethons of the 80s and 90s? that took a lot of physical resources. Fundraising is now at everyody's fingertips thanks to the internet and social media.
Hosting a fundraising event for a friend
Hosting a fundraising event for a friend requires rallying the community and empowering your other friends to get involved, too. But that is not as hard as it sounds. You're also in complete control and supported by your online fundaising platform the whole way.
You decide on the activity that friends, family, and colleagues pledge their donations to. An event can be any activity under the sun, as long as it encourages more people to donate! It can be a fitness challenge, a trivia night, or even a haircut or colour pledge.
Australians are Hosting More Fundraising Events
This year, we have found more Australians are hosting their own fundraising events. The events are being run with great success. This success means many are smashing their fundraising goals. Here are some examples of fundraising events achieving great results.
Run for Rossy
Local
Frankston Football Club and the community raised over $120,000 for their mate, Chris Ross, after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the peak of his health and fitness aged 31.
Sadly, the average life expectancy after an MND diagnosis is just 27 months.
The run for 'Run for Rossy' challenge was created by his friends to help show their solidarity for a mate going through a difficult time.As a strength and conditioning coach, physio, pilates instructor and high-performance manager of the team, fitness is important to Chris. So the 'Run for Rossy' challenge focused on active challenges.
Over 106 fundraisers joined in and ran, cycled and moved their bodies to raise vital funds for Rossy. The funds went towards Rossy's battle with MND, neurological supplements and medical costs. Run for Rossy also raised awareness of MND.

Posties with a Purpose
Posties with a Purpose is a group from Lake Macquarie, NSW, running marathon rides on the iconic Honda postie bike to raise money for charities and good causes. The group has been hosting fundraising initiatives since 2012.
In 2021, the group was riding to raise funds for a friend.
16-year-old Amber Hughes is the daughter of one of the riders, and was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an incurable childhood brain cancer.
To support the cause, the Posties with a Purpose group rode 1000km in 3 days on the back roads and fire trails of the NSW mid-north coast.
All the funds raised went directly to the Hughes family to cover the cost of Ambers treatment and care, with a chance to gain access to clinical trials. You can explore their fundraising page
