OLIVER Climas is a baby in a billion whose parents are determined he will have a great life in the few years he is likely to have with them.
Just a few months after he was born in 2013, Oliver was diagnosed with Pearson Syndrome, an extremely rare mitochondrial disorder caused by a deletion in his DNA.
“It’s a one in a billion chance,” mum Nadine O’Keefe said as she bent down to tickle her only child.
“Since 1979, there’s only one hundred people in the world that have it. There is no one (alive) in their 20s and the oldest child we know of is 13 or 14.”
