Echuca Neighbourhood House has set up a mycause fundraising page to raise money for the local community as they battle floods.
Volunteers and community members have been isolated in their homes by the rising water.
Currently, there is nothing physically that can be done, except to begin a Flood Recovery Fund to help the community as soon as possible.
ENH manager Sarah Peake told Riverine Herald and Shepparton News: “Once we know how many people are affected and how many people are displaced, we will then get a better idea of how best to assist the community, whether financially or otherwise.”
Echuca Neighbourhood House is a not-for-profit community organisation that services Echuca-Moama and surrounding communities with supportive programs and initiatives.
The mycause fundraising page was set up to keep the Flood Relief Fund separate from the organisation’s regular activities, such as Neighbourhood House.
“Due to our local Bendigo Bank branch being closed…we are unable to open a new bank account to take donations at this stage,” ENH wrote on their page.
“100% of these funds will go back into our community and the residents in it.”
Past Echuca residents have begun to support the fund, which the ENH hopes will help feed the people in need as well as provide other essentials.
They are enlisting the help of the wider community for support.
“It’s not just about us, it’s about everyone and we need to be sharing the load throughout our greater community,” Peake said.
As well as raising money, the organisation is putting together a list of people who could help in other ways.
ENH is in contact with other local organisations and is ready to ferry produce and other goods as soon as they can.
