A group from Taree is taking on a tough trek for mental health and wellbeing this month.
The Club Taree Community Team is trekking through the wild, Tasmanian wilderness while engaging in conversations about mental health and mental wellbeing.
Club Taree CEO Paul Allan told NBN News: “It’s a conversation we should be having more openly in the communities so what better way than to put ourselves on the line to raise those funds.”
They are raising awareness of mental health as well as much-needed funds for Beyond Blue.
Beyond Blue is dedicated to supporting the lives of individuals, families and communities affected by anxiety, depression and suicide.
The six Club Taree members – Paul, Jacqui, Jonathan, Jordan, Matt, and Kylie – will walk the Walls of Jerusalem National Park in Tasmania’s remote high country.
The Walls of Jerusalem walk is described as “moderately difficult”, as long as they stay on the marked track. However, if they move off-trail it jumps up to “challenging”.
There is no road access and there are no day-trip visitor facilities so the walkers need to be well-equipped and fully self-sufficient.
Club Taree’s vision is to be a “recognised leader of quality, people and community in the Manning Valley”.
The Club Taree Community Team began seven and a half years ago as an outlet for engaging with the community.
The Club Taree Mental Health Challenge has so far raised more than $22,000
