Max and Mila, 13 and 12 years old respectively, are a brother and sister who suffer from Morquio, a genetic recessive disease that means their bodies cannot process certain sugar molecules which act as lubricants and shock absorbers in the body. This means their bones are being damaged every time they move. Morquio also affects growth and mobility drastically.
Unfortunately, Max and Mila were misdiagnosed seven years ago and therefore did not qualify for a trial program for a medicine called Vimzim which is now used to treat Morquio. Vimzim is very expensive so being treated with it is financially straining on Max and Mila’s family.
A friend of the family created a mycause campaign to help them raise the money they need to pay for treatment, medication, equipment like wheelchairs, and other associated expenses. The family saw overwhelming support as over $94,000 was raised to help Max and Mila, and they are very grateful to everyone who donated.
