Big medical bill after overseas op

After going on the holiday of their dreams, couple Bernie Shimkus and Kacy Donaldson now face over $300,000 in medical bills in Amsterdam.

The young couple sold everything that they had in Australia to embark on their overseas adventure. While working in Amsterdam, Bernie fell ill with what was initially thought to be bronchitis but was actually much more serious. Bernie’s doctors decided that he was unable to return home and had to have open heart surgery in Amsterdam.

Ms Donaldson told Yahoo News that Bernie had been perfectly fine up until that point in their holiday.

“This just came out of the blue — there was no sign of anything wrong with Bernie and we had been having a great time.”
