Australian local YouTube star, Patrick Westcott, shaved off his mullet this week to fundraise and support two important causes.
Patrick had been growing his luscious auburn mullet for three years.
When it came time to cut it off, he decided to donate the hair and raise money.
“It’s been 3 years in the making & now it’s time to raise some funds for a great cause,” he said on his mycause fundraising page.
The hair has been donated to the Alopecia Foundation, who aim to improve the lives of those with alopecia and their families.
The money raised went to Can Assist, Deniliquin Branch.
All funds to Can Assist help support local families with costs associated with receiving cancer treatment out of town.
Both causes are very important to Patrick and his family. His sister lives with Alopecia, and his pop, Kevin Maher, has been battling cancer.
Pat, as he is known to friends and family, raised well over his target, reaching almost $6,000.
He did a great job of raising awareness of his upcoming event, leveraging connections and social media followers.
The Deniliquin Rovers Football and Netball Club supported ‘Patty’ by providing the Rovers Clubrooms for the scene of the chop and fundraising BBQ, and inviting the wider community.
Pat also stars alongside his dad, Rhys, on their YouTube channel ‘Ranga with a Rod’, where they share fishing trips and tricks.
The series has been running for around two years and has attracted over 140 thousand followers.
