On 12 March, World War 2 Veteran, Greg Lee, celebrated his 100th birthday with flying colours as he took on a tandem skydiving challenge to raise funds for charity, Kidney Health Australia.
Greg’s son Graham says, “Dad has wanted to do this challenge for a while now and thought his 100th birthday will be the best milestone to do it. He used to jump off the roof of his house with his brother when he was 6-years-old, so he’s excited to relive the thrill of being a child again.”
Greg is raising funds for Kidney Health Australia as a tribute to his departed wife, Iris, who was donated a kidney through the charity in 1977 and lived on for 39 more years because of the transplant.
“Dad decided to do the challenge to celebrate the wonderful life he had with mum thanks to the help of the organ transplant,” says Graham.
Since starting his fundraising campaign, Greg has raised over $11,000 for the charity and continues to climb through the community’s support – www.mycause.com.au/gregscause
A crowd of supporters was present on the day cheering Greg on during his birthday skydive challenge.
Greg hopes that through his cause, he can continue to raise awareness about the importance of how being an organ donor can save someone’s life.
“My dad was a hero during the world war and wants to continue helping others for the good,” says Graham.
On 13 March, Greg's fundraising story was featured across media including Channel 10 News, The National Desk, Fox26 and River 94.9.
