Tyler has worked very hard to be at the level he is now, and even though Race Walking is not considered "glamorous", in fact a lot of people still do not know what the event actually is; Tyler loves it.
His first National win was in Brisbane in 2010; and since this win, Tyler has remained unbeaten in every age graded race that he has entered, in fact, winning every age graded race that he has entered.
Tyler's determination to be the best has come at somewhat of a cost to him, as at only 16 years of age his training regime has left little time to do normal teenage mischief. He trains anywhere from 3 - 4 afternoons a week, 52 weeks a year, and this year he is trying to balance training with HSC studies.
To better himself over the last couple of years, Tyler has been racing "up" age groups to compete against older and faster competitors. This has come at a cost (literally) as these competitions have been interstate, with constant costs of flying and accommodation to Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Launceston, just to name a few, all paid for by Mum and Dad.
To make the World Youth Team was no easy task in itself. To qualify for the World Youth Team for 2015, you have to born in 1998 or 1999. The IAAF standard qualifying time for the World Youth 10,000 metre Race Walk is 45.40 minutes, but Athletics Australia wanted a more competitive time of 44.16 minutes.
Tyler managed to get the qualifying time, not once, not twice, but three times !!! with times of 44.13, 44.08 and 43.24.
So Tyler has been selected by Athletics Australia to compete in the World Youth Track and Field Championships to be held in Cali, Colombia. All of his hard work has paid off and he thoroughly deserves to be there; but there is one more hurdle to cross and that is the Levy that must be paid to Athletics Australia before he goes.
This Levy is $3000.00 and any donation amount would be appreciated to get Tyler Colombia Bound and to show off his skills to the rest of the World !!!
Good luck Tyler Your living the dream Congrats in advance
