About

*UPDATE* Mia and I could never have dreamed of the type of support that we are receiving from everyone. We are so thankful for every single persons generous donations.
Due to everyone's support, we are able to provide Lucy's family and 2 other families with homes, composting toilets, rain water tanks and solar lights. Mia and I are thrilled and so excited and can't wait to share with you pictures of the homes that will be built.
As we have had so much support we have decided during the week of the 21st - 28th January when we are living without lighting we will also live without the television and any electronic games.
This is our small way of saying thank you for believing in Mia's vision.

My daughter Mia (12) and I traveled to Nakuru, Kenya on a service learning trip through Notre Dame University in Nov/Dec 2014. During this time we were lucky enough to live right next door to an Internally Displaced Peoples Camp (IDP) now known as New Caanan Village.
The beautiful people living here were forced to leave their homes after the lead-up to the 2007 Kenyan presidential election, where tribal violence left many people homeless, dead or severely injured. Of the 250,000 people who became displaced,
approximately 6,700 gathered together and pooled money given to them from the government and bought land in an area of Nakuru known as Pipeline. On this land they erected the tents given to them by the government and began trying to rebuild their lives. They have done an incredible job. Many of the families living there have been fortunate enough to have homes built for them from generous donors. Currently there are only 20 houses left to be built, Lucy's house is one of them. These houses provide families with security, a water tank to collect rain water and a sense of belonging that every human deserves.

Mia met Lucy on our first day volunteering at Aberdare Ranges Primary School. The connection these two 12 year old girls had was incredible. Until now they had lived two completely different lives and yet Mia and Lucy became inseparable and Mia arrived back in Australia with a vision to provide Lucy with a home.
Our family are going to be living without lighting from the 21st Jan to the 28th Jan 2015 to raise money to build Lucy and others a home.
Please support us as we raise the funds needed to build Lucy's House.
Any additional amount raised above our goal will go directly to building the other 19 families that are still living in tents a home.

Thank you to everyone that is contributing. Blessings to you all xx

Hi Simone. I met you in K-Mart returns line just before Xmas and you told me you and Mia had just returned from Kenya and how much Mia wanted to go back. I was touched by your story. Then I read the article in the Manly Daily. I would love to be able to help Mia fulfill her dream. Robyn Jones
