On the night of the 9 December, southeast Queensland experienced severe lighting strikes and storms. Maureen's home lost all power. After she checked the house and meter box she decided to leave the kitchen light on and go to bed. She woke up at around midnight and looked to see if the kitchen light was back on, only to find the front of the house was ablaze in fire.
She grabbed her mobile, dressing gown, minus the sash, threw on her work boots and ran out. Despite her efforts, absolutely nothing remains.
But she does know that she is still meant to be here, because she never would have woken up at exactly the right moment.
She has now learnt that the orange fire ball was visible by a friend at 10.30pm that evening. The friend texted the neighbor thinking there could be problems somewhere, but the neighbor wasn't aware of the fire. It was more than an hour later that Maureen woke up just to check on the lights.
Once she was up and out of the house the fire took hold quickly and spread amazingly fast. She is overwhelmed with awe at the whole situation.
Maureen lives alone. She came to live in her small house on a few acres with her horses in Roadvale Queensland. Her working life was spent in Sydney. She wanted a fresh start in a new community. When she found her little home in Roadvale, she knew it was exactly right. She went about creating her dream new world and she truly found her happiness.

Last night during the electrical storms in southeast qld, my home was completely burnt down. I awoke just before midnight to check if the power was back on, only to find the front of the house ablaze. I grabbed my dressing gown and put on my work boots. I ran outside. There is nothing left.
