I am a recent survivor of a life threatening condition called Percreta, which is the worst type of Accreta. I needed a massive blood transfusion, bladder repair, hysterectomy, life support and a number of other things to help me recover- so you might say I've been through a bit! I have received so much, and now wish to help others that are facing this diagnosis, or surviving it. To this end we are working to start an Australian Chapter of Hope for Accreta Foundation here.
This year the Hope for Accreta is hosting its very first conference for survivors and medical professionals in Tennesse, USA. It will be a great opportunity to meet other survivors worldwide, as well as learn more about this life threatening condition, new research and the latest life saving techniques.
I can think a number of reasons why I should go: - waking up in ICU with a pipe in every hole (I mean just about every) is not my idea of a great Sunday night. - Having a bladder bag for 7 weeks- I'm not being a snob but I really do prefer "indoor plumbing". - Having a super hot male nurse brush your teeth is both awkward and embarrassing. - Having two elderly nurses help me go to the toilet is a role reversal I was not expecting.
My list is unpleasant reasons could go on and on, but on a more serious note, the work of this foundation does wonders for women in supporting them through a really tough journey and helping them on the other side. The emotional wounds of this kind of trauma can last a lifetime, so we want to make that journey as easy as possible- helping to ease the pain of families and helping them carry their burdens. We will also be working very closely with medical professionals to help develop better diagnostic tools, research better surgical protocols and getting life saving equipment into hospitals.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and helping me support others.

Christina, I'm so glad you're going to the conference. I would have loved to attend and feeling so bummed that I can't make it. I know it's not much but I wanted to help you :) I would have really loved meeting you and all the girls. I know it would have been very healing just to be around others who have gone through the same things I did. Hope you have a safe and happy trip :)
