The selection for the Australian National Women's Team took place over two camps held in Melbourne on 9-10 November 2013 and 25-27 January 2014. The camps included five days of quite rigorous testing, on an individual and team level. Testing involved ice skills, hockey ability and willingness to push the physical and mental boundaries. There was also significant time spent in a classroom environment to learn quickly in the limited time together as a team the systems and set plays that will be implemented. The Challenge Cup of Asia acts as the final camp before heading to Italy for the World Championships.
The Adelaide Adrenaline compete in the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) which comprises of 4 teams (Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisabane and Sydney) playing from October til March. The Adrenaline have been one of the most succesful clubs since the formation of the league and finsihed the minor round of the 2013/14 season in second position behind Melbourne Ice. Finals weekend will be held in Melbourne on 1st-2nd of March 2014.
In Adelaide, Tess plays for the C Grade Penguins, where she wears #87 in honour of her favorite hockey player and sporting idol Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins. C Grade hockey is mixed in Adelaide, and although the Penguins now have 6 girls on their team, the league is dominated by men. She played her very first game of hockey on April 6th 2013, going on to lead the Penguins in scoring with 13 goals and 7 assists for 20 points in 18 Games and captured C grade 'Rookie of the Year' as well as MVP for the Penguins. In 9 games over the C grade summer season Tess had 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points, tying with Tom Hill to lead the Penguins.
